Karen Toulon joined the Board of Directors of The GroundTruth Project in 2020. She chaired the CEO search committee in 2022 and currently chairs the governance committee.
A member of the NBCU News Group Standards team, Toulon serves as the Director of Standards for CNBC, where she works closely with editorial and commercial teams to provide a business news lens to standards guidance across all platforms. Previously, she spent more than three decades covering global business, financial markets, leadership, and cultural news at Bloomberg, Reuters, the CBS Radio Network and CNBC. Toulon was the chief equality correspondent and host of "Black in Focus" at Bloomberg and served as New York Bureau chief.
Toulon’s work has been recognized with the Gwen Ifill Award from the International Women's Media Foundation, as well as by the Newswomen's Club of New York and the National Association of Black Journalists. In addition to The GroundTruth Project, she serves on the board of the Overseas Press Club Foundation, and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism's Board of Visitors.
Toulon received her BA from Dartmouth College and her MS from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She earned an executive certificate in DEI Strategies for Business Impact from the Judge School of Business, Cambridge University. Born in London and raised in New York, Toulon and her family live in Chatham, New Jersey.
