Ann Davis Vaughan is a former Wall Street Journal investigative reporter who now draws from her background in business reporting to evaluate public and private companies as an investment professional. As a Research Analyst for Select Equity Group, an independent investment firm in New York with over $20 billion under management, she conducts interviews and deep-dive research and analysis into companies, management teams and industries. Select Equity uses these insights to help build differentiated, long-term-focused portfolios for endowments, pension funds and other clients.
In 2015, she earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. From 2010 to 2015, she founded and led Reservoir Research Partners, an independent research-consulting business for investors. Over nearly 14 years at The Wall Street Journal, under the byline “Ann Davis,” she led the Journal’s global energy and commodity markets coverage from Houston; the “Wall Street” securities industry beat from New York; and other legal and investigative beats.
A graduate of Princeton University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Vaughan began her reporting career at The Miami Herald, covering local schools and government. She was a member of the team that represented The Journal when it accepted the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the September 11 terror attacks and has won a Gerald Loeb award for deadline reporting. She serves on the boards of YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, one of the country’s highest performing charter-school systems, and the Houston Cinema Arts Society.
