Pracheta graduated with a Masters Degree in Journalism from Columbia University in 2009. Prior to graduate school, she worked in Mumbai as a network news reporter, covering stories that focused on women’s issues, education and human rights. At graduate school, she chose to make her thesis film on the life of immigrant domestic workers in the United States, with a focus on South Asian women. The 30-minute film titled ‘Behind Closed Doors’ was awarded the best documentary at the Journalism School and also got selected at three international film festivals. She is most passionate about education and took up a 2-year Fellowship program with Teach For India, where she taught in a municipal school in one of the largest ghettos in Delhi. Prior to being a TFI Fellow, she worked as a multimedia journalist for 6 years, with a diverse portfolio of assignments for organizations like Wall Street Journal-India, The Caravan magazine and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.
